  1. Piles are designed to conform with all relevant British Standards and the I.C.E. Specification for Piling and Embedded Retaining Walls. The standard grouted piles are highly durable proving a Class II Sulphate resistance.

  2. Typical service loading settlements lie in the range 2 mm to 5 mm for all piles.

  3. Piles greater than 220 mm diameter can be reinforced full depth or at the pile head with a circular hollow section or cage to provide moment resistance to horizontally applied forces. This enables the system to be used as mini pile retaining walls with service bending capacities of up to 250 KNm per metre run of retaining wall. Small diameter bored piles are capable of resisting much higher moment of up to 600 KNm per m run of wall in addition to their load bearing fuction. This system is particular attractive for use in inner city confined sites undergoing redevelopment.

  4. Tensile pile capacities should be taken as approximately 50% of the compressive capacities.

  5. Piles can be installed in limited headroom of 2.3 m and 350 mm from the vertical face of an existing structure measured to the centre line of the pile. At a corner location the equivalent dimension to the return face is 750 mm.

  6. Most piles are stage drilled when founded in clay or bedrock e.g., 280 mm diameter temporary casing is installed down to the founding level with a 235 mm diameter socket extending in the founding stratum.

  7. All mini piles can be drilled directly through and permanently bonded to existing structures and their foundations without the need for precoring or breaking out. The special drilling system provides excellent bond between the piles and the structure to either underpin them or provide additional load carrying capacity.
